The Secret Supper by Javier Sierra
I enjoy traveling as much as possible and one place I always try to visit, after the local bookstores, is the museum of art. Last time I was in Milan, I couldn’t get tickets into the Santa Maria delle grazie convent. A spur of the moment trip and tickets had a four month wait list, but its still on my list to go see, and its easy to understand why I picked this one up. If you’re a fan of historical thrillers filled with hidden secrets and religious mysteries, The Secret Supper by Javier Sierra is a must-read. Set in 1497, this gripping novel centers around the creation of Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic The Last Supper, uncovering a web of religious conspiracies, coded messages, and secret societies. Sierra expertly blends historical facts with fiction, immersing readers in Renaissance Italy while exploring the mysteries embedded in one of the most famous works of art ever created.
The story follows an inquisitor named Agostino Leyre, who is assigned to investigate the controversial painting. He must uncover the truth behind the alleged heretical symbols hidden within the masterpiece, believed to be the work of da Vinci’s genius mind. As Agostino delves deeper, he uncovers a dark conspiracy that could shake the very foundation of Christianity.
What makes The Secret Supper so captivating is Sierra’s meticulous research, which brings both the historical setting and the religious puzzles to life. His writing is atmospheric and engaging, with vivid descriptions that transport readers to the bustling streets of Milan and the inner sanctum of religious power. The tension builds steadily as secrets are unveiled, leading to an explosive climax that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
For fans of Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code or Umberto Eco’s The Name of the Rose, The Secret Supper offers a thrilling, thought-provoking ride into the intersection of art, religion, and history. It’s a perfect blend of suspense, intellectual intrigue, and historical exploration—making it an unforgettable read.

As someone who grew up in southeast Michigan with deep roots in the auto industry—nearly every member of my family worked in it—my path seemed pretty set. But I always felt the pull toward something more. I became the first in my family to earn a college degree, working my way through to a BA from Concordia University Ann Arbor, and later, a graduate diploma from the University of St. Michael’s College in the University of Toronto.
Now, forty years into a career as a Supply Chain professional, I find myself turning the page to the next chapter. Outside of work, I’m happiest with a book in hand, planning my next travel adventure, hitting the bike trails, or spending quality time with good friends. I’m also a proud dad to a special education teacher, and I still call Ann Arbor home, where I live with my partner, our two rescue dogs, and three very opinionated cats.
